We all know that we should probably be drinking more water, but it can be particularly challenging when you have a little one (or two, or three, or four…) to constantly chase around all day. Staying hydrated is so important, but how do we make ourselves improve this healthy habit? Here are just a few creative ways to help you stay hydrated throughout the day and take in a bit more of that nourishing H2O.
FIRST OFF… A little on Why it’s so important to stay hydrated
Staying adequately hydrated is about more than just keeping your body from drying up – It is completely vital to maintaining the function of every single system in your body!
That being said, here are just a few reasons why it’s so important:
- Regulates body temperature, heart rate, blood pressure
- Lubricates the joints
- Boost brain power
- Aids in digestion
- Improves immune strength
- Removes waste and toxins from the body
- Protects against various heath conditions and diseases
And so, SO much more! But I think you get the picture…
So now let’s take a look at a few ways that we can get a little more of this good stuff back into our bodies.
1. Start First Thing in the Morning
When you sleep during the night your body uses up just as much water as when you are awake during the day.
Chances are, you aren’t going more than 8 hours during the day without a drink of water, so it’s important to make sure you’re fully replenishing your body as soon as you wake up.
*TIP: The night before, I always prepare a large glass of water and place it on my nightstand. This way, the moment I wake up in the morning, I’m immediately reminded to drink.
I usually prepare another glass of water with lemon, as soon as I make it down to the kitchen.
2. Sport A Cute New Water Bottle
Sounds silly, I know…but I have found this is truly one of the best ways to motivate yourself to drink more throughout the day.
I love using S’well Bottles because they are functional and eco-friendly; they come in 3 different sizes and have the cutest designs. But you can really use any bottle or glass that suits your needs, as long as it gets you excited about drinking water!
3. Try Infusions
Super quick and easy to prepare, infusions are a great way to spice things up a bit and add a boost of flavor to that boring ole’ cup of water.
Try chopping up some strawberries, cucumbers, oranges, mint, or any combination that you would like and place in a giant pitcher of water. Mash up the ingredients a tad bit to really release their flavor. Let infuse for at least an hour and enjoy!

4. Add natural electrolytes
Adding some natural electrolytes to your water can be particularly helpful in rehydrating the body after a long workout or sweat session.
…and I’m NOT talking about Gatorade or other conventional sports drinks (which are loaded with sugars and other toxins). What I am speaking of, is a simple drink that you can whip up with ingredients that are (likely) already in your cupboard.
All you need is filtered water, a pinch of Himalayan pink salt (or sea salt) and a fresh lemon slice.
Mix all ingredients together in a tall water glass and enjoy!
*TIP: Leave the entire slice of lemon (skin included) in the water while you sip for added nutritional benefits.
5. Eat the right foods
Many people may not realize that your food choices are an extremely important part of keeping the body hydrated.
This article explains that hydration, interestingly enough, has much more to do with thy types of foods you consume rather than the amount of water you drink!
Eating vegetables and fruits with a high water content can actually hydrate your body more effectively than a glass of water.
Here is a list of some of the most hydrating fruits and veggies that you can start incorporating into your diet today.
